Wind Music
Notturno No. 5
Joseph Haydn
Arranged by Tony Turrill for Wind Decette
2Fl./2Ob./2Cl./2Bsn/2Hn
In each of the notturni, there are moments when the music demands only one possible orchestration, a particular instrument seems to be perfect. Just as the slow movement for no.2 seems to be tailor made for the clarinets, no.5 is the turn of the horns. The melody of the romantic slow movement is a must for the horn, and once the key is changed from F to C it sits perfectly on the instrument. The horns also continue to play a central role in developing the excitement of the final fugue.
